To the community (from Vetteking95)
It is no surprise that 2020 was a year unlike any we’ve lived through before. It’s no secret that our focus wasn’t here in 2020 and for that, I owe a great apology, not only to the Halo Community, the Halo United community, but also our team.
As we began 2020 we began work rebranding as Halo United, in a move to further unify under a banner that was a greater representation of our goals. With this change we made promises and the promises made weren’t delivered upon. We failed to interact with our community, failed to inform the community, and failed to make progress on the goals we’ve spoken about for well over a year. Despite what life handed us, we could have done a better job communicating this to the community, for that we are at fault.
Some of it was certainly based on the excitement for Halo dwindling, it was a hard year for Halo fans, even amongst the reveal of Halo Infinite. Thankfully, the latest news about Infinite and additions to MCC has rekindled the love and admiration for this franchise, at least for me, reminding me why I love Halo and this community. Without Halo…I honestly don’t know where I would be. It’s why I do what I do for a living, and it has gotten me through the toughest parts of my life. I love this game, I love this community. Funnily enough, the latest Halo Infinite news happened to feature something prominently that we wanted to use as our symbol for the community…the Beam Emitter (or Beacon) towers. I think that’s a wake-up call myself and for us. here.
Reigniting the Beacon
A new beginning. A new focus. Not biting off more than we can chew, and a greater level of transparency. We love Halo, it’s why we started this site. It’s why we came together. We wanted to do more for this community, but our personal lives had to take centre stage. As we refocus we are being more deliberate in our execution, we aren’t here to be the next dead Halo Community, especially when Halo Infinite is on the horizon, we want to be here and celebrate the next generation of Halo. I think we can all agree that this is going to the biggest Halo has ever been, it’s never been a better time to be a Halo fan.
First and foremost, we want to be here fostering community, that is the priority, and the idea of what that means can differ per individual. For myself and many others, we look to the days of Halo 3 and Halo Reach. The shared closeness, less segmentation, and understanding of what was where in the community. We want to bridge the gaps and provide a solid roadway to connect the Halo community on a new level. Goal #1 is to deliver on building the Community Index. We want to be the ultimate launchpad for Halo fans new and old.
I would like to say thank you to the team here at Halo United. It’s been a rough year for all of us, and I thank each and every one of them for being there for each other on a personal level. I also want to thank @Writing_Spartan for his incredible dedication and work on our various Community Spotlight articles, which he has since taken to another level with the launch of his site Halo Spotlight. Please go give it a visit and support the efforts there, it’s an incredible love letter to creators in this community.
With that, we would like to invite anyone who is interested in helping build this community to reach out. Our plans long-term are extremely ambitious, but we are going to start with the small steps. That being said, even those steps take a team, and those wanting to see something come together. If you run a community or a channel, we are always open to collaboration and spotlighting, again feel free to contact us.
We love the Halo Community, and we are eager for the next generation as we gear up for Halo Infinite. You can find us on Twitter, if you ever want to send us a tweet or message or join our Discord to come join in on the fun.
We look forward to working with you all to make the Halo Community the best it can be. Stay tuned over the coming weeks for more detailed plans on what we are doing here at Halo United.
