Why 2020 Will Be The Year Of Halo

Aside from the many unannounced novels, comics, toys and collectables that will flood the year of 2020 for many Halo fans, the games themselves will be one of the main points of 2020. With all the focus on Holiday 2020 with the launch of Halo Infinite, it might be easy to forget that there is in fact 6 Halo game launches this year.

I Think We’re Just Getting Started

With the recent and successful launch of Halo Reach on both PC and Xbox, it’s easy to see why fans might be too engrossed in Halo Reach to remember the rest of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The rest of the collection will be presumably joining Halo Reach on PC in 2020, due to the workload being so much smaller for the remaining titles.

Halo Combat Evolved and Halo 2 already use the PC version of the game, so bringing them back onto PC shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4 have already been graphically enhanced and retouched and already exists inside MCC on console. This would likely mean the workload involved in bringing those titles to PC would be a lot less than what was involved with Halo Reach.

Infinite Possibilities

After the already hype year that awaits us thanks to MCC coming to PC, Halo Infinite is set to be the icing on the 2020 cake. Aside from being the first mainline Halo game in 5 years, it’ll also mark a brand new fresh start for 343 Industries. Appropriately named a spiritual reboot, Halo Infinite aims to do the impossible task of pleasing both Classic and Modern Halo Fans alike.

It’s not just the game launch itself that is impressive though. Halo Infinite see the return of the staple Halo feature split-screen, along with refocusing the main storyline on Master Chief. Aside from those awesome in game accomplishments, Halo Infinite will mark a first for the entire Halo franchise.

For the first time ever, a Halo title will be launching on two different generations of Xbox console, the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X. There’s no guarantee that Halo Infinite will have crossplay, but given that Halo Infinite will also be on PC, it’s extremely likely.

Mix Things Up A Little

A lot like Halo 2 and 3 coming to PC may be easily forgotten, there is another large part of 2020 that the Halo community may have brushed aside. The Halo Insider Program. The Halo Insider Program actually started out as the Halo MCC Insider program, which began back in 2018. After changing into the Halo Insider Program. it was used from the very beginning of Halo Reach’s development on MCC and PC and will continue to be used throughout the Halo on PC development cycle.

“There will be more flights of Halo: Reach on PC (and Xbox) and we expect to grow the population and scope of content in successive flights. And remember we’ve got a long journey ahead – there will be flighting for Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, ODST, and Halo 4 all before they are launched on PC.”

-Ske7ch (343 Industries)

Halo Infinite will also receive the help from Halo Insiders, along with every future Halo game. This is evident by the various messages on the Halo Insider sign up page, such as ” Halo Insiders who choose to opt in to console or PC flighting will be considered for early access play sessions with in-development Halo games.” and ” As a Halo Insider, you’ll have the opportunity to regularly provide feedback and insights that help shape and inform current franchise initiatives and the future of Halo. “

As stated on a blog post on Halo Waypoint “These opt-in flights will start small and slowly expand out until release.” You can check out all those details and more information on what has been confirmed for Halo Infinite here. If you look hard enough, you might also see myself in one of those pictures. (I’m the cool guy).
